Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

A Jersey gem! Family run too! Came here with a friend a week ago and was really impressed! Nicely decorated and really helpful servers, and good looking too. Anyways, the menu is really diverse which is pretty cool because there were some influences from cultures I've never had before and you don't often see in restaurants. Food: We started with some crab rangoons that were really good, nice texture and some dim sum which were shumai! Then we went with Indonesian Fried Rice, Spicy Mango chicken, and some string beans & broccoli. Everything was really good and good portions. But, my favorite had to be the mango chicken. Delicious. Had to ask them for the recipe. They are pretty much a family-style-portion type of place so be aware. I'm sure it'd be great for groups. I live in NYC but I'd definitely go back to NJ to get this again. Recommended!

Let me preface this review saying that I've been spoiled eating at countless Asian restaurants of varying cuisines, so I know what good Asian food should taste like. I ordered take out from here once. While the staff that was helping me was polite, the food was below average for me. The roti was forgettable and the pad Thai was flavorless. Maybe the chef was having an off day, but I haven't returned since my sub-par experience.

To the owner: SHAME ON YOU for taking out your frustrations on other people. Hire someone else to manage the restaurant so you can attend therapy and learn to work through your anger and frustrations. The service is fantastic; the waitstaff is always attentive and efficient. However, as much as I would like to give more stars, I cannot support an establishment that treats its workers with such a base and unprofessional manner. I happened to overhear the owner speaking to a waitstaff member, and I am appalled with the owner's lack of professionalism toward her waitstaff. She was berating, condescending, and used offensive language to yell at her waitstaff when s/he did something the owner was unhappy with. In this case, the waiter was not in the wrong, and the owner was yelling incoherently at the waiter because he could not understand what she wanted him to do; who could? with all her fluster and flailing because she could not coherently explain what she wanted from him. I overheard her cursing the waitstaff under her breath in her native language and her expletives were degrading and unnecessary. As much as I would like to return to this establishment because of the service and food, I cannot support such a business that condones this kind of behavior to its staff.

Good strip center asian themed restaurant. Enjoyed the dumplings, General Tso's chicken, and pork lo mein. While not standout, if the General is on your back and you need to get him off, well, hit it up.
(3)Kristina I.
The food is all very good. Our biggest issue is the wait time! Why so long for a container of soup and some chicken and broccoli?? I don't understand it. This makes me not order from there.
(3)Suzanne R.
Egg Drop soup isn't that good but besides that the rest of the food is great. They have some of the best fried rice. It's fluffy and rich in flavor. Absolutely love it here and will continue to come!
(4)Jill S.
The best Chinese food in East Brunswick, hands down! We love their noodle dishes and their dumplings are the best!
(5)Preeti P.
We drop in atleast twice a month, and in the last 2.5 years, never been disappointed with this place! Extremely courteous and efficient service, simple yet elegant ambience and very good food. Tried pretty much everything on the menu - all good! Personal favorites: Tom yum seafood soup, egg drop soup, steamed pork dumplings, pad Thai, Singapore Mai Fun.
(5)Jay H.
Best pad thai I've had in the area and the staff have always been pleasant ... I've only done takeout so far though so no idea how their dine-in service is though ...
(4)Desiree M.
The food here is delious! So far any dishes we have ordered have been very fresh and tasty. I enjoy the restaurant's decor. The only thing that is a negative is the portion sizes seem to be shrinking.
(4)Leigh R.
My favorite Chinese restaurant in town.
(5)Rachel L.
I ordered the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. It came with egg noodles which is not Taiwanese style. Egg noodles is more Cantonese style. Not typical taiwanese beef noodle soup. The chicken pad Thai was pretty good. Definitely recommend that. Order out! It's cheaper
(3)Donna F.
I had takeout from this place on Saturday (04/12), and I was amazed by the quality of the food. I ordered the steamed shrimp with steamed veggies and garlic sauce (served on the side), and a side order of white rice. The rice was perfect, not too dry, but not soggy either, and the shrimp were large and a had a nice, healthy shade of pink. The veggies were steamed just right, and tasted fresh.I also tried the Sambai (?) chicken my boyfriend ordered with some peanut sauce, and that was also very good. Downside: my meal was a little too large, and I usually don't like Chinese food leftovers. But I would definitely love to go to this restaurant and order something else off their expansive menu.

My favorite fusion in EB. Great lunch & dinner specials around $10. Superior combination Asian fusion, I highly recommend for a variety of reasons. Brewed tea yes. Relaxed atmosphere without obtuse Asian frills yes. Dimly lit yes, but pleasant date environment. Attentive service yes. Hong Kong wonton with choice of 4 different noodles is divine with combo shrimp n pork wontons along with baby bok choy yummy. Their roast pork low mein is absolutely perfect not too much juice not too dry just right with plenty of pork for us carnivores. Their Pad Thai will stand up against any Thai restaurants in the area, I'm partial to the shrimp a big thumbs up. I haven't been disappointed by any of the soups. One of the few places that deliver high quality product at reasonable prices. They could use more spice/heat, but if that's my only complaint then they may be the best around here. BYOB!
(4)Jennifer D.
Clean modern space with friendly service. The food was tasty and you can tell it was freshly prepared! Love the combination of Thai and Chinese dishes on the menu, plenty of choices for everyone. Be prepared to wait a bit for the food but you will be happy when it does come out. You can tell there was some time spent preparing each dish! Prices were very very reasonable. I will definitely be back :) Only con is it is kind of tough to find in the Stop & Shop shopping center!
(5)Susan P.
My fiance and I came here one random day and really enjoyed our experience and our meal. Came here for dinner after making a reservation. Our server Alex was extremely friendly and helpful. Its a BYOB which is always a plus in my book. Good and service were excellent. Totally worth checking out this place.
(5)Shirley C.
Love it! The service is amazing and so is the food. It might be a small restaurant, but don't underestimate!
(5)Doreen T.
The two stars are for the service, that was excellent! The food was not good at all, no taste! Out of the 6 of us that ate there, only 1 liked the food! Would not eat there again.
(2)Billy R.
My girls and I love the food here. The staff is friendly and courteous. Will go back.
(5)Andy H.
Always fresh and good portions for the price. Love the Sesame Chicken, General Tso and Orange Chicken. Excellent egg rolls too.
(4)Jane Y.
Only been here once, pretty mediocre Asian restaurant, wouldn't choose to eat here again but wouldn't cringe if I did. Pros- environment, staff, good amount of food Cons- bit overpriced, food is mediocre You get unlimited free fried wonton crackers with a sweet/spicy sauce first thing you sit down. Pretty cool, the crackers were nice and crispy but the sauce was overly sweet, bit syrupy taste. Not horrible though. I got the sweet and sour chicken which comes with a selection of soup and rice. I got the hot and sour soup which was very good and fried rice which was probably the best part. Their fried rice is frequently raved about and I see why. Nice flavor with a crispy texture and not overly oily like some fried rices can get. The chicken is slightly disappointing. I found it kinda weird how the fried outer part was almost detached from the actual chicken, the chicken was plain with the fried part having all the seasoning. The pineapple in it complimented the dish really well. Overpriced for the quality of chicken but all the complimentary food along with it made it reasonably priced, I think it was around $14 which was one of the cheaper dishes. The environment is very romantic and would be a nice place for little dates and such. It's dimly lit with the lights set really low and a dark brown wood and red fabric theme. It's a pretty restaurant, definitely nicer than the common Chinese take-out place. The staff was all friendly and wasn't crowded at all but not completely vacant either. I went around 1 pm on a weekday. 5/5 for service.

Updating my review because, while Orchid is still the best Chinese food in the area, it feels like they're starting to slip. The dishes are not as flavorful as I recall when I first started eating here, and no matter how hard I try, I just cannot get them to make anything really spicy. And like most American Chinese food, it's all still a little too sweet and glurpy for me -- far less so than all of the other Chinese restaurants in the area -- but still... Orchid should be doing more to differentiate itself from its competition or they're just going to end up blending in with the rest of the bunch.
(4)Alok B.
My favorite Asian restaurant in the area. Dined-in/got takeout multiple times. Much better quality, taste, and service than your local Asian restaurant. The dine-in atmosphere is casual yet elegant. The fried wonton crackers on the table are tasty start to the meal. I generally order the Pad Thai noodles with chicken. As an added bonus, the menu specifies healthy options.
(5)David L.
The food at Orchid is always very good . The service is terrible . No one comes to check on the table . When you can flag down a water you are told they are very busy ? Good for you . Restaurant is less than half full on an early Sunday night. We are here over an hour and have had soup and asked for our appetizers twice. On a side note the little acrylic frames with the specials in them have probably never been cleaned . Food is great, but I am questioning our relationship.
(3)Viral P.
Went to this place based on the Yelp Reviews & 4 stars-- and it was not disappointing. They have very large menu that covers most of Asian oriental foods. Lot of folks on here are calling it a 'Chinese' food place but they have Japanese, Malaysian, Viet and fusion Asian food on the menu. Very friendly staff which makes for great service. BYOB and right portions make this place great... I would be going back there soon.
(4)Diana M.
One of the top Chinese food places I've been too... Very clean, there service is great and good is very good.. The menu is huge and varies from Chinese and Thai
(5)Valued C.
Best all around Asian place in the area. The food is consistently great, and it has a nice ambiance. One member in our party required low salt and no sugar in their food, and the chef had no problem preparing dishes that were really tasty! I've waited until I was back for several visits before writing a review. My only slight gripe is when they get really busy, the pacing of the meal can go off a bit (soup and appetizer arriving at the same time) but overall, this tough critic feels this place is worth 5 stars.

We stopped by Orchid on a Saturday Night. This is a very tastefully decorated little restaurant in a strip mall along side of Stop N Shop just off 18 south. Orchid was busy. We waited 15 minutes for a table. The staff was very pleasant but a bit frazzled. This was most likely due to how busy they were. The were very apologetic about the length of time for our food to come out. It was not really that long a wait. We had Miso Wan Ton soup for an appetizer, the Tom Yum soup, dim sum (siu mai) and Roti Canai. The Tom Yum soup lacked tamarind and lemon grass that make Tom Yum-Tom Yum. The other dishes were just OK, not bad but nothing memorable. For the main dishes we had Beef in mango curry sauce. This was crispy and tasty We also had Pad Thai with shrimp. The Pad Thai was good but it wasn't a true Pad Thai. I think that is trouble with some Asian Fusion restaurants the fusion loses the distinct flavors from the original dish. Not a bad place but sort of in the Asian for White people style. Hey I am white, but my wife is Asian and my daughter Amer-Asian and that was their description. The staff were very nice and attentive in a very busy setting.

I am so glad I visited this place! I have been here twice, and while they do have thai, I prefer their chinese dishes, but both are amazing. The service is wonderful! The waitress was very patient, helpful and fast both times. My friends loved their dishes (chicken and cashew nut & shrimp in lobster sauce lunch special). I also had a lunch special with brown rice, hot and sour soup (incredible and great amount of mushrooms), and the shrimp and vegetables. I made it spicy with less oil and it tasted amazing. I did add a little bit more spice but that's only because of my personal taste. The chinese is not greasy and I loved that... fresh and healthy. Definitely stop by... there are NOT many great restaurants in East Brunswick (many chain options) but this is a very cute, comfortable and tasty fusion restaurant.

This is the best Asian restaurant I've been to in Central New Jersey, hands down. Clean and tastefully decorated, the atmosphere is as pleasant as the food. I prefer coming here over other Chinese restaurants in the area because I can get a myriad of Asian style cuisines here. Everything from China, to Malaysia, to Thailand, they've got it covered. We usually like to order the Orange Chicken (a huge hit with the kids), Udon Noodle Soups, Chicken Pad Thai and my all-time favorite, Sambal Chicken. Delish! For some reason, the standard chinese fare like Chicken with Garlic Sauce and Beef and Broccoli is just average in taste here. I much prefer the Southeast Asian and Japanese cuisines at Orchid. The service: Excellent. Everyone from the receptionist to the wait staff is super-friendly, courteous, accommodating, and VERY good-looking. That last part wasn't instrumental to my evaluation of the service, just something I noticed, so I gotta give props! ;) Be sure to ask for tea. It doesn't come standard like the chips and duck sauce, but once you order it they keep refilling your cup with that heavenly stuff.
(5)Tara M.
I usually don't like wonton soup. I like egg drop and hot and sour BUT friend let me try his wonton egg drop mix. I love love the wontons, not dough and not huge they melt in your mouth so now I am hooked. They do tend to have dishes that are on the sweet side bc they are thai based with Chinese thrown in. I ask them to turn up the heat and they always accomodate perfectly. I like spice. We are regular customers so they know what and how we like things. I tried there asian wings they were delish. and there spring rolls and egg rolls are really good and not greasy. The staff are sweet and attentive. They have been getting busier and busier so gotta get there earlier than normal. I hope this place stays.

Just finished my fabulous meal. Clean, excellent service, delicious food. Not too pricey. Excellent restaurant; I will be back and ordering take out too.
(5)Charles V.
Great little restaurant! Food was great and the service too. Would have given 5 stars but I felt the price was a little high for the area and location. Will go back for more.
(4)Becky N.
Great asian-fusion restuarant! Not traditional chinese/japanese food by any means, but definitley delicious and high quality. I have never sat in at the restaurant, but I take-out from there often and it is always very good. The food is fresh, the chicken is real and not chewy and disgusting like many american catered Chinese places. It is reasonably priced, but definitely more expensive then your typical, cheap asian fusion restaurant, but you get what you pay for and the food is high quality and tasty.
(4)Leo G.
Quiet, elegant with wide variety of delicious dishes. The Taiwanese beef tendon noodle soup and wonton noodle soups were both very good. The walnut shrimp with a creamy sauce paired with sesame chicken were excellent. Reasonably priced. Novice well-intentioned service. We'll definitely be back. Located between the Stop & Shop and Alfonso's.

Yay! .... I'm a fan. I came to Orchid on a Saturday at about 2 pm. Myself my girlfriend and a buddy of ours were the only people in the place. I hate when that happens. The girl at the front was very nice and sat us anywhere we wanted. When we sat down we were given just lunch menu's and I do appreciate offering me the specials first but It seemed like those were our only options. We asked for regular menu's and got them no problem. We ended up ordering everything of the lunch menu and a special entrees card that was on the table.....nothing off regular menu's we requested. While reviewing the menu we talked about how nice the place was. VERY CLEAN. All three of us got Chow Fun. My girlfriend got vegi while our buddy and I both got roast pork. The lunch specials came with soup. The waitress was glad to offer my girlfriend the hot and sour soup since she noticed my girlfriends order being vegetarian. (the soup does not even have chicken stock in it) My girlfriend has never had H&S soup before but she loved it. Our buddy also tried some of hers and said it was very good and he will get it next time. I got wonton soup and the waitress was also happy to get my buddy who was torn between egg drop and wonton a mixed bowl! Girlfriend got the Spring Roll (2 for $3) and they were very good. The rolls appeared to be fresh prepared and were very large in comparison to every other Spring roll I have ever seen. Aside from the Noodle dish's my buddy and I split a dish of Thai Shredded Beef. THIS WAS AMAZING! It was $13 came with some white rice and definitely enough beef for us to split and be happy. We all agreed that while the noddles were done well they needed just a little bit more pop of flavor. I can not put my finger on exactly what it needed but they fell a little 1 dimensional. The pork in the noodles was a liiiiittle dry but plenty of it. Once I added the Thai beef with some of the extra sauce to my noodles they were a plate worth coming back for. While we were eating I mentioned to my girlfriend that the girl up front is very nice and help full but she was the only waiteress/host. I said "If like 3 or 4 more tables came in she would be screwed"...of course immediately following this comment 2 more tables of people walked in. She was handing them fine and my water was being topped off so cool. It's hardly worth complaining about because it did not effect me but when a 3th group of people walked in to inquire about having a party function she cold not step away. I saw her looking around wanting to jump away to get the other tables food that might be ready in back, top off refills, and hit us with our check. I was in no rush so it was fine with me, but I hate to see someone who's working hard and doing a good job possibly end up with bad reviews because she was short handed. Some sort of second manager should be around able to dedicate time to a large inquiry because that usually requires a lot of time and small detail that should not be rushed. I will return.
(4)Matt S.
We're never disappointed by Orchid. From the ambiance to the delicious food, you'll want to become a regular here just to try everything on the menu, which has quite a huge variety of different options--Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Malaysian, and Polynesian. Just don't fill yourself up on the amazing fried noodles that they give you while looking at the menu!
(5)Andi K.
Food was very good. Cute little spot to grab a nice dinner with friends. Fairly typical Asian fusion menu but good tasting, good quantities and good quality food. Atmosphere is nice, again - low key enough for a simple night out. Definitely liked the spicy mango scallops the best out of the dishes we ordered.
(4)Christian F.
I was very tempted to keep my sunglasses on when I walked into Orchid...all of that nectarine! Sort of offensive to the eyes but, since I was planning on a quick dinner in the area with a friend, I decided to let the food do the talking. I certainly wasn't disappointed. The food at Orchid is so fresh and refreshing...you can tell that the chefs make the dishes from the heart. I had a fantastic seaweed salad and pad thai (extra spicy). I was so happy that they didn't dull down the spiciness for this white boy...I'm used to very very very spicy food and I always get a little irritated when Asian/Indian/Latin restaurants try to null the spices in their cooking. I asked for it spicy and I got exactly what I wanted -- an absolutely delicious (maybe not entire-authentic) pad thai that was filled to the brim with fresh noodles, veggies and a perfect thick sauce. Loved it. The only complaint I have (and yes, this is very small and maybe trivial) is that the only iced tea I could have came in a can. I love fresh tea and, since I wasn't in the mood for hot tea, thought that an iced tea would be the same as hot tea but (obviously) iced. I ended up getting some Pepsi-brand iced tea that was way too lemon-y. I would never use that as a deal-breaker, though. The food is more than worth it -- inexpensive, fantastic ingredients, and very prompt and attentive service. Our waitress was so super sweet. I can't wait to go back!
(4)Bill M.
If you are looking for a step up from the usual Chinese takeout place, Orchid is perfect. I always go for the Walnut Shrimp: gently fried shrimp, candied walnuts, broccoli in a creamy sauce. Just terrific. The Asian Spicy Wings are terrific, covered with a sticky sauce that has a nice amount of heat. The Mango Chicken was ok, though, as the mango could have been a bit riper.
(4)Sheila G.
Just when I was thinking "I could really go for Chinese food," the friend I was meeting for dinner said "How about Chinese food?" Luckily, she knew of a place, since all my old haunts had disappeared or changed for the worse. I was really looking forward to my first time at Orchid, and even happier when I saw they had a lot of Thai on the menu. I ordered Shrimp in Spicy Mango sauce, because it was listed under the spicier dishes with that red chile next to it. The reality was quite different. The shrimp were large, but the sauce had no spice whatsoever, and the sauce seemed to be just gloppy sweet and sour sauce, which I can't stand. The young waitress who responded to my call for help said something about them not making the food very spicy, since they get complaints. Huh? Then why call it SPICY mango sauce and put that chile next to the description? And since when does "not very spicy" mean total absence of spice? Truth in advertising should be mandatory! I decided to stick with the shrimp and try again, this time ordering Thai curry, and I asked for it "medium." This turned out to be Massaman curry, and it was delicious. It had the same good shrimp, just the right amount of spice, and the usual potatoes, along with a bunch of other vegetables and even tofu. I've had this dish at Thai restaurants with beef mostly, and sometimes with chicken. It really worked with the shrimp, and I have to say it was among the best Massaman I've ever eaten, with its variety of things besides the shrimp that don't usually make its way into this dish. Toward the end of the meal, my friend, who has been here many times, suddenly realized that we hadn't been served tea. The waiter said "Oh, you want tea?" Very strange. So overall, my experience wasn't outstanding, but thanks to the amazing curry dish I will go back and have it again.

An Orchid by any other name would smell just as sweet. I think that's what Shakespeare wrote. But seriously, this place is pretty sweet- - - and sour. Sit inside Orchid for a few minutes and you'll instantly forget you're inside a Jersey strip mall. The interior is modest but sleekly designed. The clean, intimate atmosphere transports you to a classy Manhattan bistro. The food at Orchid is mainly Chinese with Asian fusion dishes. They also have Thai dishes and Taiwanese noodle soups. The menu is solid with plenty of options. I really enjoy most of the food I try at Orchid. The ingredients they use are fresh, and the food isn't overly greasy. This is definitely higher class Asian eating. Orchid is a good option is you're looking for fresh, flavorful food.
(4)April G.
Spicy mango sauce was very good
(4)Mike W.
Pricey. The food was good and the portions were normal, but it was way too pricey. I got the shrimp pad thai. The sauce was OK, but the shrimp was phenomenal. They were giant, luscious, flavor pieces of shrimp-wish there was more. The servers were attentive and friendly, but I've had better thai food for better prices elsewhere. The only thing that might bring me back is the lunch specials (assuming the portion sizes remain the same). Otherwise, I will head to Thai noodle or Thai kitchen depending how desperate I am for green curry and pad thai
(3)Carol S.
I had pad thai w/ chicken, extra spicy. So they made the noodles extra spicy style, and then gave me more hot sauce on the side. The portion was HUGE. I probably gave half of it away. So if you're a girl with a normal to big appetite, split it with your other girlfriend. The "appetizer chips" were addicting but too oily. I felt it coat my lips & tongue. But at least that's not the main meal, right? Anyways pad thai was on point! Not super greasy or as heavy as other places that always seem to just throw some stuff together. Waitresses were attentive to refill glasses (I came with a party of nearly 15). Even gave separate checks before asking for everyone. Thoroughly enjoyed, left satisfied.
(4)Sofia P.
Best Chinese/Asian Fusion restaurant around the area. No complaints.
(5)Catia C.
Very good, cute, clean place, fresh ingredients, delicious foods. A little uncomfortable sitting and some times, food need more season.
(4)Gloria C.
First impression: this restaurant is really orange. really. Went for a dinner with the family. A little stereotypical with the paper zodiac placemats and fortune cookies (seems more geared to non-asians) and typical asian dishes but props for having a huge selection from thai to taiwanese which is impressive. I had pad thai and it was ok. I will say I did enjoy the roti canai. Nothing was stand-out amazing but they were all solid asian dishes and it's a decent place for a meal. The waitstaff had a good level of attentiveness...and the server was sweet and cute... that never hurts.
(3)Jeff M.
If you are looking for FINE Asian Cuisine. This is it. This may be me and my girl's new hot spot. We ordered pick up here from work. Wanted to try it out. I ordered Roti Canai here..Roti canai is a type of flatbread found in Malaysia with curry chicken and potatoes on the side. Good stuff.. My entree here was their chicken with spicy mango sauce over white rice! Say what! I said chicken with spicy mango sauce baby!! ;) Delicious! it was a delicate balance of tropical fruits in a delicate special brown sauce. Cant wait to order this Bad Boy again. You can also order health selections of steamed dishes if you want to stick with healthy meals.
(4)Steph M.
in love the walnut shrimp!!! the shrimp is huge and the sauce is perfect. the taiwanese beef soup is also good.
(5)Matthew Z.
Typically I do not like Fusion restaurants as it seems everything is hit or miss depending on the background of the chef. So how did Orchid fare? Food: There seemed to be a big divide over the quality of the appetizers and the mains. As a table, we split Crab Rangoon, Chicken Satay, and steamed dumplings along with a variety of soups. The dumplings were nice and light and not overly greasy while the satay sticks were huge and easily are double to triple the size of the typical satay stick you will find anywhere else. The biggest hits was the Rangoon though. Unlike others places where this dish is the posterboy for crappy American Chinese, the rangoon were firm to the touch yet instantly opened up to a soft and melty crab and cream cheese filling. I could have eaten the whole plate on my own. The soups were also a huge hit with the Tom Yom and Tom Kha leading the way. The mains were a completely different story however. The double happiness (half honey walnut shrimp/sesame chicken) while large in portion size with the (chicken being surprisingly moist) was incredibly under seasoned. The shrimp came in some coagulated cream sauce that tasted as bad as it looked. The Teriyaki steak was overcooked and did'nt have any real teriyaki flavor to it. The biggest regret was the prawn in chili sauce which besides coming to the table cold and needing to be reheated, had no chili flavor or spice what so ever. Though I would rate the food at this place as a 3, the absolutely terrible service (40 minutes to get our mains after our last appetizer was served) with us being one of four tables filled knocks the place down a star. Also much more expensive then the typical Chinese joint coming in at 103 dollars for a table of four (3 mains, 4 soups, 3 appetizers).
(2)Jessica H.
My family's new go-to Thai place! Love this place- friendly staff, reasonable prices to make tight-wad grandpa happy and delicious food! The vegetable pad thai is a personal favorite of mine.
(5)Diana A.
I have Yelp to thank for leading me to this cute, Asian-fusion BYOB spot next to Stop and Shop in East Brunswick. Previewing the menu online left me impressed and ready to take the plunge. While I'm sure some would criticize Orchid for being sort of Americanized (forks, no chopsticks), they offer the standard Chinese favorites along with Thai, Vietnamese and even Japanese-inspired dishes. We were promptly seated and service was great. I had the spicy mango chicken, which was really tasty (and definitely not too spicy nor salty). The atmosphere was casual, yet polished. There aren't too many sit-down places like Orchid in the area, and all in all the experience was great. Prices are reasonable, as the portions aren't gigantic, but I still had plenty to bring home. Of course, Orchid does offer takeout, and they're open for lunch and dinner. If you're in the mood for something a step above the typical Chinese takeout, give Orchid a try! I imagine the small location fills up quickly on Saturday nights, so go early unless you want to wait.

This is our first visit here and we have enjoyed our lunch. The Ambiance is great and welcoming. The food is great and would definitely comeback.

Came here for lunch with a coworker and I'm glad I did. The food really is good and does taste fresh. I got the Thai curry chicken with fried rice and it was really good. I had the miso soup which was just so so. The Thai iced tea was also just so so. I would definitely eat there again. Try it out.

Striving to be a top notch Asian restaurant Orchid falls somewhat short on the food. Giving credit where due their pork dumplings were excellent in both taste and texture with a nice not to thick outer covering. But that is where the good news ends unfortunately as the green salad with balsamic dressing did not work at all in an Asian restaurant. Follow that with the classic salt and pepper shrimp and broccoli which was way to dry and lacking in pepper - duh. This failure along with a chicken sambal that contained bits of tough bird iced the proverbial cake. Nice new space and OK service round out this dining experience. Feeling kind today I'll give them (3) stars for effort, but I will not be driving back to East Brunswick anytime soon to partake of Orchid cuisine.

My coworkers and I order lunch or dinner here a few times (lunch specials are pretty good, with lots of variety and options). The food is pretty decent (and I am usually very turned-off to Americanized Asian food... this is a strange but interesting middleground of Asian and Americanized Asian, leaning more towards Americanized). I've had their General Tzo's Chicken, Shredded Pork with rice entree, and Pad Thai. Their Pad Thai is decent and satisfying. I am just glad that the food isn't overly salty and saucy. One star down for Pad Thai that isn't nearly spicy enough for me, even when I emphasize "super spicy please," and I have had much better Asian food elsewhere. However, this place does offer seemingly healthier versions of your typical Americanized Asian dishes. Prices are very fair, too.

Orchid has tons of choices of different Asian cuisines. Compared with other places, they just can't compare to the variety and selection that Orchid offers. No matter what I've ordered, it was delicious, and NOT just plated versions of things from typical Chinese takeout. This is our go-to place when family or friends are visiting from out-of-town--when you want to show off the best that your city offers, making it stand out from anywhere else in the country as the best.

I discovered Orchid through Yelp and have found it to be an amazing restaurant! Now, I normally do not write reviews, especially 5 star ones. However, I saw a few negative ones which I thought could be fixed through some informing. First of all, I have come here with my family on numerous occasions in the last few months. All of our family and friends have enjoys the food from here, and I feel good about feeding my family here as we're quite health-conscious and this is one of the only Asian food places where we do not get sick or feel gross after eating it. I've tried several new dishes here (some by accident - I don't like trying new foods) and have enjoyed all of them, adding some new favorites to my list. The only exception to this is a soup my sister tried, I believe it was called tom yum soup or something similar (she didn't like the seafood taste). As far as pricing, Orchid is definitely more expensive than many Asian food restaurants, though I personally can justify it because of the quality of the foods. Also, the lunch prices are fantastic and to par with most Asian food places. If you dine in for lunch, soup is also included. The dinner portions are twice as big as the lunch portions (though include a lot less rice) and cost about twice as much. We usually split them. At first, they didn't seem that big but they seem to fill you up quicker than ordinary fast food. Maybe that's just us though. As far as service, we receive great service almost every time we go. With a small setting, once in a while it seems like they are almost always at our table or once a waitress was standing in the doorway, facing us. That was uncomfortable - but usually we experience pretty good service. Hopefully, this review will help those out who would enjoy this restaurant and help save a trip for those who wouldn't. It's a little bit niche, I suppose, but I love it. I hope you will too! :)

Got takeout here with my girlfriend. The Roti Canai that got rave reviews on yelp was quite different that what I am used to. The bread is a bit thicker and less crispier than I am used to at other local establishments. However, it still did the trick and satisfied our craving. Crispy boneless chicken with spicy mango sauce was DELICIOUS as other yelpers have noted here. We also got the Hong Kong Wonton Noodle Soup. The broth was pretty great. It had 4 wontons, bak choy, and we had egg noodles with it. I like my noodle soups to have a bit of chunks of meat in it aslo, so I was a bit disappointed, but it was still pretty great. Next time I know to ask them to cook some beef in there with it, and it would have been great. All in all, glad I tried this place and DEFINITELY will go back again because I live 5 minutes from it.

If you're in East Brunswick and want great Chinese or Thai, this is the place. Service: Terrific. The wait staff are courteous and always smiling. Food is generally served quickly and whatever you ask for (extra chips/duck sauce!) is brought out without hesitation Food: Wonderful for a suburban Asian fusion restaurant. I've had almost everything on the menu and it's all pretty good. Worth a trip out there. Roti canai. although greasy, tastes great. Mango chicken, all the thai currys, and the basic Chinese variety are made very well. Price: Can't beat it. Seriously. Atmosphere: Great place for dinner. It's clean, what more can you ask for? We also catered with them once - was just as great! Everyone loved the food. Don't get the honey walnut chicken.

I have been looking for a decent chinese place for years. I finally found one that was perfect for me. They were very nice on the phone when taking my order and even when I saw them in person for pick up. The prices are reasonable and prepared my food extra spicy. THE WAY I LIKE IT!!! I will be ordering from this place from now on. Thank you to everyone who posted reviews for Orchid Restaurant. You helped me find a new fav place :)

We take out Orchid for dinner at least once a month. The food is served hot and fresh, the employees are great, friendly people and the atmosphere (even though it's small), is cozy! If you're looking for great Asian food, then I highly recommend this Restaurant!!!!!

This is, without question, the best Asian restaurant in the area. Their menu has a wide variety of selections - both classic dishes as well as those not typically found on your average Chinese food menu. Unlike every other Chinese restaurant in the area, Orchid is extremely clean and modern, and the food is not syrupy and thick like most other Chinese restaurants. The food feels fresh, light, clean, and incredibly well seasoned.

Maybe it's just me, but I frankly wasn't impressed by this place. I've lived around the corner from here since before they opened but never actually tested out their cuisine. Earlier this week I got a craving for some thai noodles and didn't feel like going into New Brunswick to get them. The problem I have with this place could be that i'm a BIG noodles girl, I'm not a huge fan of rice. I was disappointed when I saw the menu and the limited noodle dishes offered at an "asian" fusion restaurant. The real disappointment came when I took my dish home. I like spicy - A LOT and asked for extra extra hot sauce on the side - it was sweet! It was almost as though they took chinese hot oil and cooked it down with sugar because it was a chunky sweet texture - NOT okay. The second issue with my noodles was the lack of anything else. As I said earlier I'm a noodles girl, but it doesn't mean I don't want SOME vegetables with my chicken chow fun. I got a few slices of onion a few pieces of scallion and about one chicken breast. All in all they were nice people and the space inside is really lovely the portion of noodles I got was massive but I was just very disappointed after seeing so many rave reviews. I might give it another shot with some thai curry - but it wont be anytime soon.

Wonderful place- you know how you order chicken and broccoli and it's so greasy that 5 minutes into eating it the grease begins to seperate from the sauce? Yeah, that didn't happen here. It's always been very quiet when I've gone- except for the occasional noise from the jiu jitsu place next door. Overall, very friendly staff, appetizers are good, entrees are delicious, dessert is kinda eh.

I was sort of underwhelmed by the dining experience. True, the decor is great, but I wish I could say great about the food too. To me, everything tasted bland. The spicy Thai chicken dish I ordered came drenched in some sweet sauce. My wife ordered something Malaysian, which turned out to be a slab of chicken accompanied by some characterless sauce. Roti Canai was too oily as well. All in all, a forgettable experience. The only plus points were the ambiance, and the ever-attentive waitstaff. It is a shame. EB can certainly do with a nice SE Asian restaurant.

My family had dinner here last week. I was looking forward to it because of all the great reviews, however, was somewhat disappointed. The roti canai was pretty good, eggroll which my husband had was plain. Just seemed to have cabbage and no flavor. The rice served with the meal was too small a portion. For dessert, we ordered fried ice cream which came out soft, not crunchy like it's supposed to. The meals were good (mongolian beef and general tso's) but we've had better. Waiter was friendly and place was nice. Seemed a little stingy with their paper products like giving out straws and take home boxes. Actually asked if we wanted a bag for the boxes. Can't they just give it to us without asking?
(3)Nicky P.
Friendly staff. Best food. General Tso's is a bit soggy, but I think it's because they don't encrust it with thick dough like everyone else, so it's not really that bad in the end. Thai tea is amazing. Thai Curry chicken and Sambal Chicken is my go to. I'm sure everything else is great. Portion sizes are generous. Affordable. Overall, very very good!!

The sambal tofu was awesome... Best Chinese food I've had in central jersey!

Although I was reluctant because there were only a handful of reviews, the food was delicious and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. The prices were very reasonable, the food was excellent, and the staff was polite, giving us suggestions on dishes when we asked. Definitely worth a visit.

I really enjoyed dining at this restaurant today. I live in E B so I am always looking for new spots. I had lunch and the prices were excellent. In addition I found a coupon. I ordered roti canai for an appetizer and it was yum! My main entree was General Tso's chicken, which was good. You get a choice of soup with lunch, I had hot and sour soup- delicious. My daughter got chicken with broccoli and the chicken was good quality. I hate when Chinese restaurants use bad cuts of meat. My husband got Hunan beef and was pleased. I can't wait to go back. All that for $23 and we took food home. The server was attentive and friendly. Also the decor is stylish and appealing. Hope you give it a try!

This is the best in the area. Great food, very reasonable prices and attentive service. My wife and I have been 3 or 4 times over the last 6 months. We leave happy every time. My only concern is we've never seen the place crowded. I hope they are getting enough business to keep the doors open.

Authentic Chinese and Cantonese food, as good as the food in China town in NY. Much better than other so called "Chinese" restaurant in East Brunswick.
(5)Laura M.
The best Asian food in central New Jersey. The shrimp pad Thai is outstanding , there are so many shrimp compared to other Thai restaurant who over charge for the same dish. We so far have not had a bad meal and the decor and staff are great. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
(5)Philip W.
Their noodle soup in the lunch menu is great. The broth has flavor and not salty, very balanced. This is a meal by itself which is very traditional. It is simple, quick, good and delicious. I get a good lunch and go back to the office. BTW, the lunch specials are just as good.

Great food and staff, love the Thai curry chicken

Took my family of 5 there today for lunch. Had the a couple meals off the inexpensive lunch menu. We also ordered a couple of items off the full menu. We liked the steamed dumplings, the shrimp with black bean sauce and the Thai chicken fried rice. My son did not like the curry pork chop mainly because it came out dry and prepared differently than he expected. Decor and dinnerware was Upscale except for the cheap paper zodiac place mats. Server was clearly new, but very likable. The restaurant was empty while we were there, but they did do some take out. Overall, I think ku in marlboro does a better job in this niche, but we would definitely recommend and return to orchid.

This is such an awesome restaurant. Not your typical chinese restaurant, it makes you want to eat in, not take out. The decor is warm and inviting, and you're always greeted with a smile. When you sit down you are given water and fried noodles with a wonderful tasting dipping sauce. I highly recommend the salt and pepper shrimp per my bf, and I loved the shrimp pad thai. When you order fried rice, your portion is heaping! I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a new place to make into an instant favorite!

Very tasty food. Menu is mostly based on Chinese food but also has some Thai and Malay dishes. Glad I walked in and will definitely be back for more! Reasonably priced. The seafood udon I had was reminiscent of what you can get in Singapore.

Definitely the best Chinese restaurant I' ve ever been to!! The quality of the food was better than any Chinese food I've ever had in my life... and the price was more than reasonable. As soon as I walked into the restaurant, I was instantly impressed by the ambiance and atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in fine dining for a reasonable price, as well as HIGH quality chinese food take out. Other Chinese restaurants in the area will have to immensely step up their game because this is now by far my favorite Chinese restaurant.
